In the 1880s, amidst the backdrop of Hokkaido, Japan, Jubei Kamata, portrayed by Ken Watanabe, is a notorious figure aligned with the Edo shogunate, known for his ruthless killings. His fearsome reputation echoes throughout Kyoto. As the conflict at Goryoukaku nears its conclusion, Jubei mysteriously vanishes. A decade later, he leads a quiet life with his child, struggling to make ends meet. Committed to honoring his late wife’s memory, Jubei vows never to wield a sword again. However, financial hardship forces him to break this promise, compelling him to become a bounty hunter.
