Ed Goodson, a candid and outspoken father, takes pleasure in sharing his unsolicited and frequently politically incorrect opinions with anyone who will listen. No one is spared from Ed’s tirades, including his sons: Henry, a struggling writer who has become an unpaid blogger, and Vince, the timid partner in a real estate team with his assertive wife, Kathleen. When Henry can no longer afford to pay rent to his attractive roommate, Sam, who he secretly admires, Ed shows a softer side by inviting Henry to live with him. Henry accepts, fully aware that the verbal onslaught will continue unabated and that he will have no means of escape.
