“American Dreams” is a drama series that aired on NBC, produced by Once A Frog and Dick Clark Productions in collaboration with Universal Network Television and NBC Studios. Created by Jonathan Prince and developed by both Prince and Josh Goldstein, with Prince and Dick Clark serving as executive producers, the show premiered on September 29, 2002. Set primarily in Philadelphia, the series originally aired on Sundays at 8:00 pm Eastern time before shifting to the same time slot on Wednesdays starting March 9, 2005, until the end of its third season. The narrative centers around the Pryor family in Philadelphia during the mid-1960s, with the first season covering 1963-64, the second season 1964-65, and the third season 1965-66. In Australia, the show was initially titled “Our Generation” but reverted to “American Dreams” for its second season.
The theme song, “Generation,” was written and performed by Emerson Hart, the lead vocalist of the band Tonic. This song won Hart an ASCAP award for Best Theme Song of Television in 2003. Additionally, the show received the “Future Classic” award at the 2003 TV Land Awards.
