Marius
Set in the Old Port of Marseilles, “Marius” unfolds at the La Marine Bar, run by César and his son, Marius. Marius harbors a deep desire to board one of the ships that pass by the bar and journey to distant lands. Fanny, a charming young seafood vendor, has secretly loved Marius since childhood, and although he has never admitted it, Marius has always had feelings for Fanny. One day, a sailor visits La Marine and offers Marius a position on an expedition ship. In an attempt to delay his departure and stir his jealousy, Fanny confesses her love to him, sparking a confrontation between Marius and Panisse, an elderly boat dealer and longtime suitor of Fanny. Caught between his yearning for adventure and his affection for Fanny, Marius decides to forsake his dream to be with her, and she reciprocates his love. As César and Fanny’s mother, Honorine, prepare for the wedding, Marius reconsiders, feeling the irresistible pull of the sea once more.
