Gone with the Pope
In “Gone with the Pope,” Duke Mitchell takes on the role of Paul, a mobster with a blasphemous plan: to abduct the pope and demand a ransom of “one dollar from every Catholic worldwide.” Originally filmed in 1975 under the title “Kiss the Ring,” the project remained incomplete following Mitchell’s death in 1981. It wasn’t until 1995 that Sage Stallone and Bob Murawski of Grindhouse Releasing unearthed the film and committed to rescuing it from being forgotten. Murawski, an Academy Award-winning editor known for his work on “The Hurt Locker” and the “Spider-Man” trilogy, dedicated 15 years to finishing “Gone with the Pope” using the existing footage.
